Tannehill Says Jarvis Landry Needs To Balance Emotions

DAVIE (CBSMiami/AP) — Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill says teammate Jarvis Landry needs to be careful in striking a balance between his fiery style of play and being out of control.

Landry drew a $24,309 fine two weeks ago for an illegal block that Buffalo Bills coach Rex Ryan described as a dirty play. And at times the Dolphins receiver becomes demonstrative in showing frustration on the sideline.

"A guy like Jarvis, guys are watching him, people in the stands are watching, the other team's watching," Tannehill said Wednesday. "You see body language, you see how guys are affected. You always want to be uplifting to your teammates, the guys around you, and never pull away. I think there's a constructive way to do that, and obviously, you never want to do it in a negative way."

After four games, Landry ranked second in the NFL in receptions with 31. In the past four games he has 18.

"He gets frustrated at times, but he's a competitor," Tannehill said. "I just think his drive to win is extremely high and he's very emotional. Sometimes he lets his emotions get up on him a little bit."

Miami (4-4) has won three games in a row while adopting a run-oriented approach, but coach Adam Gase and offensive coordinator Clyde Christensen said this week they need to do a better job of getting the ball to Landry.

"It sounds easy. In fantasy football, you throw it to your best players," Christensen said. "But it's hard. It depends what the defense is playing, and how the game is going. Just because you dial up his number doesn't mean the ball goes to him."
