Large Swells From Cristobal Washing Up On U.S. Coastline

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Large swells from Hurricane Cristobal are washing up on the East Coast from North Carolina through New England.

At 11 a.m., the Category 1 hurricane was 545 miles south-southwest of Halifax, Nova Scotia. It's maximum sustained winds were estimated at 75 mph as the system moved to the northeast at 26 mph.

Hurricane force winds extend 60 miles from the system's center while tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 205 miles.

No strengthening is forecast within the next 48 hours and Cristobal is expected to become a powerful extra tropical cyclone over the North Atlantic Friday night.
