SUV Slams Into Fort Lauderdale Building

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) -- An SUV slammed into a Fort Lauderdale building Monday evening.

It all happened around 6:30 p.m. There was no one inside the building at the time of the impact.

The building is the site of a store called "The Plant Boat" located at 1140 South Federal Highway.

The building may be a total loss. It's a thought that was too much to bear for the owner of the store, Matthew Lang .  He opened the business four months ago and put every dime he had into it.

Lang said he is struggling to keep it running.

"It's just going to set me back. You know, I am just going to have to make it happen," said Lang.

He was doing work, below cost, at the time of the wreck.

"I'm sitting here doing this job for really cheap just to pay my FPL bill today. I guess I don't need to pay it today," said Lang.

He said it's going to be months before he can reopen the store.

As of 9:00 p.m., the car had not been pulled out because officials were concerned the building may collapse when they pull the car out.

The driver of the SUV remained at the scene. He was not severely injured in crash and has not be cited.

Police are investigating.
