MIAMI (CBSMiami) - A Miami-Dade police department bomb squad has been called in to check out a suspicious item on Sunny Isles Beach.

Chopper4 spotted the item on the sand under some palm trees behind a condo at 18335 Collins Avenue. It was cylindrical in shape, about three to four feet tall and blue.

Sunny Isles Beach police said they have not evacuated the area, but do have the officers stationed at a safe distance around it to keep the curious away.

This is the second time in as many weeks that a strange object was found on the beach.

Last week, a flare that the Coast Guard uses washed ashore at 164th Street.
