Study: Infants Fed Rice Products Have Higher Arsenic Levels

MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- A new study suggests infants fed rice products have higher arsenic levels than other babies.

Researchers in New Hampshire tracked the eating habits of hundreds of babies and discovered the highest arsenic concentrations in the urine of infants eating rice cereal.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has tested 76 samples of the infant rice cereals from retail stores for concentrations of inorganic arsenic. They say about half contained levels of arsenic.

Researchers are now calling for more studies to determine the long term affects.
