Students Complain After Classmate Said 'God Bless America' During Morning Announcements

A north Florida high school has been challenged by atheists because a student has been using the phrase "God bless America" at the end of morning announcements, reports WJAX-TV.

The Washington-based Appignani Humanist Legal Center (AHLC) wrote a letter to the Yulee High School administration after receiving a complaint from two students about the message.

"We have been informed that religious messages are being delivered over the PA system at Yulee High School every morning for the past few weeks," the organization wrote in its letter to superintendent of Nassau County schools.

The organization warned that the school was in violation of the Constitutional principle of separation of church and state.

The school's principal responded, saying the choice to conclude announcements with "God bless America" was made by the student alone and that the student has been asked not to use the phrase anymore, according to the AHLC's website.
