Father Denies Owning Gun Child Allegedly Brought To School

HOLLYWOOD (CBSMiami) -- Two middle school students accused of handling a gun at school made their first court appearance.
Wednesday afternoon, the students from Apollo Middle school in Hollywood faced a judge with their parents.
Because the police arrest report was not clear about who did what, Judge Stacy Ross told the prosecutor to revise the documents and scheduled a return Thursday afternoon for another hearing.
The school was put on lockdown on Tuesday after other students reported seeing the two handling a handgun.
It was later found hidden under a portable classroom.
Prosecutors say the gun was loaded and had a live round in the chamber. The 13-year-old who is accused of bringing the gun to school told police he took it from his father.
His father, however, told the judge the gun wasn't his.
"Police searched the house. He made up a story," said Alfonzo Cobb.
It is unclear where the gun came from.
The parents of both children say they are honor roll students who have never been in trouble before. The other student's mother told the judge she is perplexed how her son became involved in the situation.
"We are active in church. I am a single-parent. He is in honors classes. I don't understand any of this," she said.
