Stolen Ft. Lauderdale Police Officer's Car Recovered

FT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) - A Ft. Lauderdale police officer's department issued car, which was taken from in front of his Oakland Park home, has been recovered.

The officer realized the car was gone when he got up around 5 a.m.

The unmarked Dodge was found around 6 a.m. in the parking lot the Days Inn at 1595 Oakland Park Boulevard.

Ft. Lauderdale police said it doesn't appear that whoever took the car removed any of the contents from inside it.

"It appears that once the crook realized 'hey I'm in a police car' they dumped it," said police spokesman Capt. Frank Sousa. "The vehicle has been towed to our police department where it's being processed by our authorities."

Since the car was recovered in Oakland Park, the Broward Sheriff's Office is now eviewing the hotel's surveillance recordings to see if the person who took the car was caught on camera.
