State Wildlife Officials Warn About Bears On The Prowl

TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami/AP) — A central Florida woman who was attacked by a bear outside her home has prompted state wildlife officials to issue a warning about bears on the move.

The 45-year-old woman encountered a bear Saturday night outside her Lake Mary home.

Seminole County Fire Rescue officials say the woman came upon five bears looking in the trash near her garage, and she couldn't get around them. They say she got cornered by some bushes, and she was bitten on her head and arm. She was treated at a hospital and released.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said bears are leaving their winter dens and looking for food. Their increased activity means it's more likely to spot bears in neighborhoods.
