State Senator Wants Students To Take Financial Literacy

PORT ORANGE (CBSMiami) - Sen. Dorothy Hukill plans to keep trying to get legislation passed which would require all Florida students to take a course in financial literacy.

The proposal, which intends to help students better manage their money, would become a graduation requirement.

"Requiring a personal finance course will prepare our high school students heading to college or entering the work force with the tools and insight they need to be well-equipped to handle their personal finances,'" Hukill said in a press release.

Previously, Hukill and Rep. Heather Fitzenhagen were unable to get similar legislation passed.

"The News Service of Florida has contributed to this report."
