MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- A number of airline carriers in the U.S. are eager to establish a connection with Cuba and increase travel between both nations.

On Friday, a U.S. Department of State official spoke about the current talks between both nations when it comes to civil aviation. The talks originally took place on September 28th and 29th.

While there is not set timetable, carriers in both nations are looking to create an informal agreement when it comes to flights coming in and out of Cuba from the United States.

When it comes to talk of traffic, there is no set number as to how many flights would be operated between both nations. The number of flights will depend on demand within each market.

Though demand has not been established, Cuba has already offered 10 separate airports for flights.

State Department officials said five or six American airline carriers have expressed interest in flights to Cuba. Some airlines are already providing aircraft to charter flight operators.

While nothing has been finalized, department officials said, both nations have a strong common will to reach some sort of arrangement for scheduled flights between both countries.
