Stanton, Marlins In Talks Over $300M Contract

MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- While Miami Marlins player Giancarlo Stanton may not have gotten the title of Most Valuable Player, he could be a getting the richest contract in baseball history.

According to our news partners The Miami Herald, the Marlins and Stanton are in talks over a deal that would be worth $300 million or more and exceed 10-years in length.

Two sources reportedly said the deal would be even longer than that.

While Stanton will not be eligible for free agency until after the 2016 season, the team is eager to get a long term commitment from him.

The team, according to the paper, hopes he will accept the deal , but there is no indication on where Stanton stands and how seriously he is considering it.

His agent, Joel Wolfe,  has yet to respond to requests for comment.
