ST. PETE BEACH (AP) — St. Pete Beach has been evacuated after a beach walker found an object that could be old military ordnance.

Officials say bomb squad from McDill Air Force Base is investigating.

The beachgoer found the large cylindrical object encrusted with barnacles while combing the shoreline Sunday morning.

Authorities say they have evacuated the beach and a created a 300-yard perimeter in an abundance of caution to ensure public safety.
