Spencer: Marlins Pitching Has Been 'a Major Weakness'

Some thought the Miami Marlins were contenders coming into the season, but the Miami Herald's Clark Spencer always thought there was one major impediment.

"I never really thought like a lot of people did, that this was a playoff-contending team because I never thought that they had the pitching," Spencer said on the Marc Hochman Show with Zach Krantz. "I really do think that the lineup until today hadn't done anything this past week. I think that'll come around but I think the pitching is a major weakness. Right now without Jose Fernandez, their top two starters are supposed to be Henderson Alvarez and Mat Latos and Alvarez is 0-3 with an ERA of over six. I think Latos is 1-4 with an ERA of over six and that's not gonna get you very far."

As for Dan Jennings -- who is off to a 0-4 start as Manager -- Spencer doesn't see another change coming if things don't improve.

"He's committed to Dan Jennings now," Spencer said, "and he's gonna have to live it."
