Special Session For Congressional Re-Districting Coming Together
TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami) - The schedule for a special legislative session to come up with new congressional districts is beginning to take shape.
Lawmakers will convene at noon Thursday, House Speaker Will Weatherford and Senate President Don Gaetz announced Monday.
Weatherford had already notified House members over the weekend that the session would begin Thursday, but the Monday memo marks the fullest outline yet of the schedule for at least the first two days. House and Senate committees formed to deal with redistricting will meet Thursday afternoon and Friday morning.
The Senate committee will be chaired by Sen. Bill Galvano, R-Bradenton, while Rep. Richard Corcoran, R-Land O' Lakes, will head up the House panel.
House leaders appear to anticipate a final committee vote Friday; the House Rules and Calendar Committee is expected to meet later that day to set a special order calendar.
The special session will end no later than noon on Aug. 15, according to Weatherford and Gaetz.
