Meteorologist Lissette Gonzalez said the afternoon heat will provide fuel for the storms after a mostly dry start to the day.

A tornado warning was in effect until 2:45 p.m. for parts of southern Miami-Dade in very rural areas of the county, according to meteorologist Dave Warren.

A Flood Advisory was in effect for Miami-Dade through 4 p.m.

Rotation was detected on the radar but there were no immediate reports of a funnel cloud on the ground.

The National Weather Service issued a flood watch for parts of Miami-Dade and Broward counties that extends until 10 p.m. Friday.

The advisory covers Kendall, Miramar, Hialeah, Deerfield Beach, Pompano Beach, Delray Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Lake Worth, Pembroke Pines, Carol City, Davie, Hollywood, Florida Gardens, Boca Raton, West Palm Beach, Boynton Beach, Riviera Beach, Miami, Sandalfoot Cove, Greenacres City, Palm Beach Gardens, Coral Springs, Sawgrass Mills Mall, Jupiter, and Sunrise, according to the National Weather Service.

A severe thunderstorm warning was in effect until 2:30 p.m. for Miami-Dade, which includes Princeton and Homestead and areas to the south as the storm moved southward.

The storm is packing hail with wind gusts of up to 60 miles per hour.

There is a 70 percent chance for rain Friday.

"Some of the storms could turn strong to severe," Gonzalez said, adding that there could be an isolated tornado along with the chance for hail and heavy downpours.
