HOLLYWOOD (CBSMiami) – The firing of Dolphins head football coach Joe Philbin has fans all over South Florida fired up.

Philbin's demise was the main topic on CBS owned sports radio station 560 WQAM on Monday.

Host Orlando 'Big O' Alzugaray took comments from callers who approved of the decision.

"It's a good day," said one caller.

Another gushed that he felt "like the Dolphins had made the playoffs."

Alzugaray commented on the irony that on the day the annual team picture is being taken, they fired the head coach.

"That's funny" he said

Fans weighed in at the Ale House Sports Bar and Restaurant in Hollywood.

"Right now the team looks pitiful so something needed to be done" said one fan.

Others said they felt Philbin should not shoulder the whole blame for the Dolphins' last three losses.

"Philbin's not the only one who should be fired," said one fan.

"Without the players doing what they're supposed to be doing the coach can't do anything," said another fan.

Former Dolphins player and WQAM radio host Channing Crowder says it's up to the team how the rest of the season turns out.

"It's 100 percent on the players," said Crowder.

He also says a new head coach could turn things around.

"You really need a big name to come in and energize this fan base."
