Unemployed South Florida Man Tells Police He Robbed Store To Feed Family
MIAMI (CBSMiami/AP) - An unemployed Florida man accused of robbing a beauty supply store told police he was trying to get money to feed his family, an arrest report said.
Manuel Edgardo Zomora Torres, 40, apologized to officers when they arrested him on Saturday, the Palm Beach Post reported.
Boynton Beach police investigators said Zomora Torres wore a camouflage bandana and blue gloves when he pointed a gun at a Sally's Beauty Supply employee on Saturday and took an undisclosed amount of cash, the report said.
Zamora Torres sped away when officers approached his vehicle at a red light, driving on the sidewalk to get away, the report said. But officers boxed him in with their vehicles and arrested him
He told investigators he had been out of work for two months and needed money to feed his family, the report said
"He stated that was not an excuse for what he did and wanted to apologize," according to the police report.
Zamora Torres now faces charges of robbery with a weapon and aggravated fleeing. An attorney for him wasn't listed on court records.
