South Florida Deputy U.S. Marshal Arrested In California

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A Deputy U.S. Marshal from Miami was arrested in California.

According to court documents, a California Highway Patrol officer noticed a black Jeep speeding through a red light Saturday.

The officer stated after following the vehicle and saw several black bags thrown from the windows.  The vehicle reportedly came to an abrupt stop and three suspects got out and ran away.

A perimeter was set up and the first of the suspects apprehended was Clorenzo Griffin.  A sheriff's deputy assisting with the search reportedly fired a gun at Griffin and he dropped his weapon and surrendered, the documents said.

Officers later learned Griffin is a Deputy U.S. Marshal in South Florida.

The two other suspects, Andre Jamison and Rodney Rackley, were reportedly located while hiding near a garage dumpster.

Those documents stated bags of marijuana were found near the area where Jamison and Rackley were hiding and a knife was located where the suspects allegedly jumped a fence.

After the arrests, officials learned the three had allegedly robbed three individuals at gunpoint of nearly 24-pounds of marijuana.

The victims stated the men were wearing gear that said "police" on it.

Officers recovered the gear and several other items including more marijuana, the documents stated.

The three men were charged with one count of conspiracy to commit a robbery, conspiracy to distribute marijuana and brandishing a firearm.

Griffin is on administrative leave with pay.

He has been employed with the U.S. Marshal Service since April 2010.
