Small Plane Crash Near Bimini Airport Kills Two

BIMINI (CBSMiami) – Two people died after a small plane crashed near South Bimini Airport on Sunday.

The crash happened shortly after the plane took off.

According to investigators, a purple and white twin-engine Piper Aztec 27 aircraft crashed in a group of bushes adjacent to the airport runway.

Airport officials received reports of smoke not far from the runway just minutes after the plane left the ground.

Civil Aviation Department Accident Investigation representatives will arrive in Bimini on Monday to further investigate the cause of the crash.
