Storms threaten to dampen Memorial Day plans Monday in Miami and Broward

Sunny, stray showers with temperatures in the 80s in South Florida

Showers and storms moved across South Florida Sunday morning before shifting inland by the afternoon, bringing a temporary drop in rain chances along the coast and in the Florida Keys, according to the CBS News Miami NEXT Weather team.

There's a marginal risk for severe weather, but it's expected to stay inland, primarily around Lake Okeechobee. A breezy east wind will help keep coastal temperatures slightly cooler, while highs inland are forecast to reach around 90 degrees.

Storms developing inland on Sunday afternoon could drift back east into the evening, keeping the chance for isolated storms alive into the nighttime hours.

Miami, Broward weather forecast for Memorial Day

For Memorial Day on Monday, a lighter breeze will allow showers and storms to linger longer along the east coast through the morning before pushing back inland by the afternoon. By late day, some storms could again return to the metro areas, briefly cooling things down before highs rebound to around 90.

Typical summer-like weather is expected to continue through the week, with storms forming inland during the afternoons. By next weekend, a lighter southerly breeze may keep rain chances elevated along the coast.
