MIAMI GARDENS (CBSMiami) -- Police in Miami Gardens are investigating a fatal shooting at a gas station.

Jared Jamal Simmons-Smith, 22, was found dead inside the Exxon gas station along N.W. 27th Avenue on Saturday, July 23rd.

It's unclear whether the shooting took place inside or outside the store. Family members arrived as police roped off the crime scene.

"He was a loving person," said Janet Smith, the victim's mother. "Everybody knew him, he grew up over here."

Upset and frustrated, others had a message for the killer.

"Stop the killing, this is ridiculous! Just killing people for nothing," said cousin Stephanie Daniels. "Don't even give a person a chance to live their life. To kill somebody in cold blood for no reason, I hope you don't sleep tonight!"

The family said Smith had his first child on the way.

Anyone with information that can help determine what happened, call Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.
