FDLE investigates Miami police-involved shooting

MIAMI -- The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has taken over an investigation into a Tuesday afternoon police-involved shooting involving a Miami police officer. 

Police said it happened at around 2:30 p.m. in the area of SW 16th Avenue and 19th Terrace.

Miami Police Chief Manuel Morales had this to say about the shooting:

"Earlier today, City of Miami Fire Rescue and uniformed officers responded to a call involving a potential overdose. Upon their arrival, both rescue personnel and officers began to render aid to the subject, who became uncooperative and armed himself with a weapon."

"An officer discharged his firearm, striking the suspect, who was then transported by Fire Rescue and is currently in stable condition at Jackson Memorial Hospital."  

Officials did not say what charges, if any, would be filed. 

No officers were injured during this incident. 

No additional information was made available by police.
