Shooting At The Shops At Pembroke Gardens

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Pembroke Pines police are investigating an overnight shooting at the Shops at Pembroke Gardens.

It happened just outside the Cigar Bar at 209 SW 145th Terrace around 3 a.m.

Witnesses told police it Andrew Verde, 20, from Hialeah exchanged words with 22-year old Calvin Rahman from Pembroke Pines. The verbal fight reportedly turned physical at which time Rahman pulled a gun and shot Verde in the torso, according to police.

Verde was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital with a "non-life threatening" injury.

Verde's brother said he had been accept to the police academy in January and was planning on attending in January. However, since he was shot in the arm and chest, those plans are on hold because it will take several months to recover.

Rahman has been charged with Attempted Murder.
