The victim has been identified as Jyrece McClendon, 35, from Boynton Beach.

Authorities said McClendon and the suspect ended their relationship several months ago. The suspect arrived unannounced to McClendon's residence in an attempt to reconcile but she was not interested.

Following the shooting, the suspect fled in a blue Acura and as he was leaving the scene, officers arrived and attempted to stop the vehicle.

The suspect refused to stop and led police on a pursuit that took them south on I-95. Police said both Boynton Beach officers and Broward Sheriff's deputies were involved in the pursuit.

After getting off the highway at Ives Dairy Road, the suspect shot himself in the head and crashed his car, according to Boyton Beach Police. He died on the scene.

Miami-Dade Police, who are investigating the crash, identified the man who died as 44-year-old Samori Kwame Walden.

Lt. John Jenkins of the Miami-Dade Police Department said the cause of the crash and of Walden's death are still under investigation.

"From here homicide continues to investigate the scene speaking to all the witnesses and officers involved. BSO and Boynton are still on scene being very cooperative with us," he said.

The woman who was shot is being treated for non-life threatening injuries at Delray Medical Center.
