Death Of Registered Sex Offender Found At Florida Motel Investigated As Homicide

MIAMI (CBSMiami/AP) - The Volusia County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of a registered sex offender as a homicide.

The body of Marc W. Pinder, 69, was found by a state probation and parole officer who was doing a probation check at the Speedway Motel on Friday morning, a sheriff's office news release said.

Sex offenders and predators live at the motel because they often have a difficult time finding a place where they can legally live, The Daytona Beach News Journal reported. The motel housed 16 sexual predators and 16 sex offenders, including Pinder.

Pinder was convicted in 2012 on five sex-related charges involving a minor, court records show. He was sentenced Feb. 1, 2012 in Orange County. After he was released from prison, he ended up at the motel, the newspaper reported.

The sheriff's office said Pinder's death is being investigated.
