Selfie Could Help Miami-Dade Police Solve Auto Theft

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A selfie might just be the break Miami-Dade police needed in a stolen car case.
Jose Mirabal says he took the selfie with his cell phone after purchasing a SUV for $3500 from a man, who is also captured in the selfie shot.
"He seemed like good person," Mirabal said.

After taking his SUV to the tag agency, he said he was told there was a problem.
"The guy tells me this car is stolen."
"When my husband told me the car was stolen I was very sad and we had very hard moments," Mirabal's wife Adriana said.
Those hard moments didn't stop there.
Mirabal said after getting the news, he planned to take the SUV to the police department the next day to file a police report, but when he got up and looked outside, "I don't see the truck, I've got the keys, but the truck is not here," he said.
Investigators believe the man who sold Mirabal the truck, seen in the selfie and eventually surveillance video, may have taken the SUV back after selling it.
Police are now looking to speak with that man who could possibly face grand theft charges.
Meanwhile, Mirabal and his wife, who are new parents who have only been living in the U.S. for four months, hope this isn't indicative of what's to come of their life in the United States.
