Second-Largest Python Killed In Miami-Dade

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY (CBSMiami) - A giant python found and killed Tuesday is now the second largest python ever caught in the State of Florida.

The female snake was caught and killed by Bobby Hill while on a levee 5 miles north of Tamiami Trail just west of Krome Avenue.

Coming-in at a total of 17 feet and eight inches long, the python is the second largest on record caught in Florida.

Wildlife experts believe the snake was approximately 15-years-old and weighed 68 kilos--about 150 pounds.

Hill, who gets rid of the pythons for a living, shot and killed the massive snake. The body is now on its way to the University of Florida to be studied, which is where a lot of the pythons caught and killed in South Florida end up.

The largest snake, 18 feet, 7 inches, was caught in 2013.
