SeaWorld Orlando Shows Off New "Mako" Lead Cars

ORLANDO (CBSMiami) - Inspired by one of the fastest sharks in the ocean, SeaWorld Orlando has unveiled what will be lead car on Mako, their new hyper rollercoaster which will open this summer.

Designed by Bolliger & Mabillard for airtime and speed, when complete Mako will be 200 feet tall, hit speeds up to 73mph and have a 4,760 run length - making it the tallest, fastest and longest coaster in Orlando.

Being a hypercoaster goal is to make it all about speed, tight turns and that weightless feeling riders get at the top of each hill.

SeaWorld Orlando said the design of the coaster's lead car was a collaboration between their animal experts and ride engineers and it was inspired by the physiology of an actual Mako shark, including five gills on each side, eye placement and sleek, hydro-dynamic look.

Each coaster car will be equipped with special 'fast wheels' - comprised of a special compound that reduces friction - for a smooth, relentlessly fast, ride from beginning to end. The only safety restraint on the cars will be a lap guard for the rider's lower body, so their bodies are free for added mobility and "airtime"

The coaster will boast a total of 21 cars – including 3 trains of 7 cars per train.

SeaWorld Orlando got into the roller coaster game in 200 with Kraken which stands 149ft tall and hits a top speed of 65 mph. It's Orlando's only floorless coaster. In 2009, guest got to going flying on SeaWorld's Orlando's Manta.

Mako, which will run in front of the current Sharks restaurant, will also skirt the park's central lake.
