Sailboat Hits Power Line, Shuts Down River

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – Police were shocked to find a power line toppled over by a sailboat traveling down New River.

Fort Lauderdale police have shut down the river until all of the transmission line wires have been cleared at 401 SW 4th Ave.

Authorities said traffic will be closed anywhere from four to six hours. Pedestrian traffic has also been restricted in the area of SW 2nd Ave. and SW 4th Ave.

FPL said 13,000 people lost power, but only for one minute.

No one was seriously injured, but one man was taken to the hospital by Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue. He said he felt a shock.
