BROWARD (CBSMiami) – The Broward Sheriff's Office is warning everyone about an old scam making a comeback.

People have been reporting calls from scammers pretending to be deputies in order to get thousands in cash.

In one case, a scam artist pretended to be Sheriff Scott Israel.

Another scammer demanded thousands of dollars to keep a couple out of jail for missing jury duty.

"Just hang up the phone. Don't even engage them in conversation because what they're going to try to do is get more information," said

BSO says the calls look like they're coming from them, but the scammers are just using technology to disguise their phone number.

If you or someone you know has been a victim of this scam, contact Broward Crime Stoppers at (954) 493-8477.
