Sabra Recalls 30,000 Cases Of Hummus Over Listeria Concerns

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A popular hummus brand is recalling 30,000 cases of its classic hummus due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.
Sabra Dipping Co. announced the voluntary recall of its Classic Hummus.
There have been no reports of illness as of Wednesday.
The cases being recalled were distributed to retail outlets, including food service accounts and supermarkets, all across the United States.

The potential for contamination was discovered when a routine, random sample collected at a retail location by the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, on March 30, tested positive for Listeria.
Consumers who have purchased any of the products are urged to dispose or return it to the place of purchase.
Listeria monocytogenes is an organism, which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women, according to the U.S Food and Drug Administration.
