Runaway Lawyer To Be Sentenced On Fraud Charges

WEST PALM BEACH (CBSMiami/AP) — A former Lake Worth attorney who vanished after stealing money from clients will be sentenced Wednesday in West Palm Beach.

Timothy McCabe faces a maximum possible prison sentence of more than 12 years.

McCabe went missing April 2 and turned himself in after charges were filed in June. He pleaded guilty in October to five federal fraud charges involving more than $6 million and 73 victims.

His partner said McCabe had financial problems.

In a letter to the sentencing judge, McCabe said he paid off the house he and his wife shared before hopping on a bus to travel the country. McCabe said he slept in rooming houses until returning to face charges.
