MIAMI (AP) — Republican presidential candidate Marco Rubio took to Twitter Tuesday to take on those ticked at his trash talking about Florida State University.

"Look, I don't have anything against Florida State," the U.S. senator, a University of Florida graduate, told Iowa's KXNO-AM on Friday while talking about college football rivalries. "I think there has to be a school where people who can't get into Florida can go to college."

Poking back in jest, FSU President John Thrasher told the Tallahassee Democrat the 44-year-old Rubio is "frustrated by his low standing in the polls, which I believe could be a reflection of where he got his education."

Tweeted Rubio: "#FSU fans relax. It was just college football trash talk on sports radio, not serious statement on @meetthepress. But we are still going to #BeatFSU."
