CORAL SPRINGS (CBSMiami/AP) -- A road rage confrontation with a firefighter has left a man dead in Coral Springs.

Police said Paul Peterman was found unconscious on a roadway Thursday. The Sun Sentinel reported that firefighter Joshua Tullis claims he was driving home from work when Peterman cut him off.

Tullis' attorney, Erich Schwartzreich, says Peterman stopped his vehicle on the road's side, and Tullis pulled over to get a closer look at him.

Schwartzreich says Peterman dove through the passenger side window of Tullis' car and began attacking him.

Schwartreich says his client drove off to get away.

Police haven't said how Peterman died but he had head injuries.

Tullis hasn't been charged and is cooperating with authorities.

Peterman was active in the deaf community.
