Review Requested In Case Of Fmr. Officers Accused Of Racist Behavior

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) -- The city of Fort Lauderdale is requesting the U.S. Department of Justice review it's handling of an internal affairs case involving four former police officers accused of racist behavior.
The city manager expects to send a letter to the department on Wednesday, asking them to review the case which featured a racist video made by a former Fort Lauderdale cop and racist text messages sent between that officer and three others.
None of the officers still work for the department.
The letter also asks federal officials to recommend any actions the city can take to improve relations with the community in light of the scandal.
Earlier this month, Fort Lauderdale City Commissioner Bruce Roberts, who is the city's former police chief, also called for an outside agency to review the department's policies and procedures.
The city is promising complete cooperation if the Department of Justice undertakes a review.
