DAVIE (CBSMiami) – Coming off of a big win over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, the Miami Dolphins are hoping that they didn't lose one of their best players in the process.

Pro Bowl safety Reshad Jones has been diagnosed with a shoulder injury and early indications are that his season could be over.

Jones will get a second opinion before making any decisions about surgery.

The Dolphins expect to know what will happen with Jones by midweek as the team continues to prepare for its game against the Buffalo Bills this weekend.

Last season Jones was selected to his first Pro Bowl after finishing the season with 106 solo tackles, leading both the Dolphins and all NFL defensive backs.

So far this season through six games Jones has 31 solo tackles and an interception.

Miami's secondary has already faced injury issues this season as rookie Xavien Howard has missed time with a knee injury.
