Rescued Dog Recovering After Pulled From SW Miami-Dade Canal

SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE (CBSMiami) – A dog in distress, rescued from a Southwest Miami-Dade canal is resting and recovering at Miami-Dade Animal Services.
The female retriever was spotted in a 30-foot deep canal at Southwest 144th Street and 157th Avenue on Monday. She struggled to stay above the water for at least 20 minutes before Miami-Dade Fire Rescue crews came to the scene and rescued her from the murky water.
The dog, exhausted from trying to keep her head above water, was taken to Miami-Dade Animal Services.
Officials there say the dog is six years old and appears to be a pure breed yellow Labrador retriever. They did find a microchip.
"She has a microchip but it's invalid. It's a good reminder to get the chips updated," said the veterinarian who treated the dog.
Labrador Rescue of Florida is taking the Labrador retriever for now to get her well. She will get x-rays and be evaluated to find out what is the next step for the dog.
