Report: NBA's Eastern Conference Historically Bad This Year
MIAMI (CBSMiami) - The Western Conference in the NBA has routinely played the best basketball from top to bottom. But never has that been more evident than in the current season.
According to Probasketballtalk.com, Eastern Conference teams must win three of its final seven games against Western Conference teams to avoid having the worst conference record since the NBA split into conferences in 1971.
Probasketballtalk found the East is currently 163-280 against teams from the West this year and that if the East wins just two games, it will still tie the record for worst conference record.
The good news for the East is two of the final seven games involve the Miami Heat, the toast of the Eastern Conference for the last four years.
Miami plays Minnesota at the AmericanAirlines Arena Friday night and plays the Memphis Grizzlies at the FedEx Forum in Memphis next Wednesday. So there's a good chance the Heat can pull in two of those victories.
Of the remaining games, the only other chances to pick up the third victory would be next Wednesday when the Chicago Bulls play the Timberwolves, or on April 13 when the Oklahoma City Thunder play the Indiana Pacers in Indiana.
However, if the Bulls, Thunder, and Pacers all choose to rest their starters over the next two weeks, those two games are far from sure victories for the East.
It also doesn't help the Eastern Conference that Milwaukee and Philadelphia, the two worst teams in the NBA are both in the conference.
