Report: Mike Wallace "Happy" in Miami, "Willing" to Restructure Contract
Now that it appears the Miami Dolphins have locked up Ndamukong Suh to the richest contract for a defensive player in NFL history ($60 million guaranteed, via ESPN), the question becomes what the team will do with receiver Mike Wallace and his hefty salary cap figure.
"Like I said I am willing to help out the team, but at the same time I'm not about to do nothing crazy either," Wallace told ESPN's Josina Anderson."I'll definitely help the team out, but it has to be reasonable—what I feel is reasonable."
So what would be considered reasonable?
"I have to see what exactly what my agent and the team is talking about and whatever I feel is reasonable. It's not set like this is what it is. If we come to an agreement, I'm with it. Like I said, I'm not about to do something too crazy. I still have a family that comes first.
"It's going to be to where I get my money back. It's not going to be like I just take a cut and that's what it is. No, it's not going to be like that. If it is a restructure, (there's) going to have to be ways I can earn my money back."
Wallace was Pro Football Focus' 50th best receiver last season. Set to make $9.9 million next year, the Dolphins can save $6.5 million by releasing him before next Sunday's deadline, but the team already cut loose receivers Brian Hartline and Brandon Gibson.
After adding Suh, they've moved fully into win-now mode, and although Wallace has had his issues in Miami (like not wanting to check back into last season's finale), nobody's questioning whether his speed impacts a defense. It also appears Wallace is still satisfied calling South Florida home.
"Yeah I am happy," he said. "It is a nice place to play football, so yes I am happy."
