It turns out the smoke hovering over Mario Chalmers for much of the summer and into the season was real.

According to Yahoo Sports, the Miami Heat guard of the last eight years has been traded to the Memphis Grizzlies in a four-player deal along with wing James Ennis for guard Beno Udrih, second-year big man Jarnell Stokes, and a second-round pick.

The move will save the Heat $2.5 million in salary and $6 million in luxury tax payments.

Chalmers is set to make $4.3 million this season and is averaging  5.5 points and 3.2 assists on 31-percent shooting from the field.

Udrih is a point guard playing for his seventh team in 12 years. He'll provide depth behind Goran Dragic and Tyler Johnson.

Stokes was selected 35th overall in the 2014 NBA Draft by Utah before getting traded to Memphis last season. With very scarce playing time, he has career averages of 2.7 points and 1.7 rebounds.

Update (4:03 p.m.): The deal is on hold as Miami tries to find a third team to take on one or both of the players Miami's acquiring.
