DAVIE (CBSMiami) -- The Miami Dolphins have fired defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle, the team announced on Thursday.

The news comes three days after the team parted ways with head coach Joe Philbin after back-to-back double-digit losses to the Buffalo Bills and New York Jets.

Upon Dan Campbell's introduction as interim head coach, the team made clear he had authoritative control to fire assistant coaches.

Coyle lasted one practice into the Dan Campbell Era after serving as the team's defensive coordinator since 2012. There have been rumblings all season of players' displeasure with Coyle's scheme.

Under Coyle, the Dolphins defense has steadily declined.  Miami gave up 317 points in his first season, 335 in 2013 and 373 in 2014.  Through four games this year the Dolphins are on pace to give up 404 points.

The new defensive coordinator will be Lou Anarumo, who has served as the Dolphins' defensive backs coach since 2012. He came to the Dolphins from Purdue where he coached defensive backs for seven years.

Additionally, Jeff Burris has been promoted to assistant defensive backs coach and will work primarily with the cornerbacks. He replaces Blue Adams, who will continue to work with the Dolphins safeties.

Miami currently ranks dead last in the NFL in rushing defense, allowing 160.5 yards per game, and last in sacks with only one.

The Dolphins are on a bye this week and will return to action the following Sunday on the road against the Tennessee Titans.
