DANIA BEACH (CBSMiami) -- A South Florida repo man said it was the "craziest moments of his life" after a man shot at him as he towed his car away.

Colby Gonzalez said it began when retrieved a 2006 Nissan Altima from a residence at 19820 NE 14th Avenue in northeast Miami-Dade.

When Gonzalez stopped at a gas station on Ives Dairy Road to complete the proper notifications, Max Dieuveil, 31, allegedly drove up in a Hummer and started shooting at him, according to police. In an effort to escape, Gonzalez fled northbound on I-95 as he called 911.

"I almost lost my life. I picked up the gentleman's vehicle in Miami-Dade. I was coming out, getting on I-95 to go north, the gentleman started shooting at me and I called the police, I didn't stop until the cops caught him," said Gonzalez.

Hollywood officers were able to catch up with Dieuveil just north of Griffin Road and take him into custody.  They recovered a semi-automatic pistol from his Hummer.

"Now this gentleman was arrested and I'm going to press charges to the fullest extent," said Gonzalez.

Police say Dieuveil, a truck driver, admitted to chasing and firing at the tow truck, thinking that his wife's car was being stolen.

Gonzalez doesn't believe that for a minute.

"I don't think so. I think he was just blasting and just letting go with his gun because he wanted to and now he's going to jail over a 2006 Nissan Altima," said Gonzalez.

Gonzalez wasn't hurt, but his truck has some new dings where the bullets hit. The married father of two said this wasn't the first time this has happened to him. His wife was relieved when she found out he wasn't hurt.

"Thank God he's okay and nothing happened to him. It's really ridiculous how somebody could try to shoot you or try to hurt you for a car," she said.

She added that she would like him to change jobs, but he loves what he does.
