MIAMI (CBSMiami) - The remains of a six month old Florida panther have been recovered from Lee County.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said the panther died as the result of being hit by a vehicle on Friday.

The remains were taken to Gainesville for a necropsy.

So far this year 35 Florida panthers have been found dead, 27 of those deaths were road fatalities.

Officials say only about 180 Florida panthers remain in the wild.
