Record Rainfall Drenches South Florida

MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- If you're reading this right now, congratulations. You survived the soaking the lower half of the state took over the weekend.

The rain made traffic a mess and ruined the weekend for just about everyone from basketball fans at the Heat-Cavs game, attendees at Art Basel, holiday shoppers or even simply those trying to make it to their front door.

"At the lowest point [the water] went to my knees. Almost lost part of our Nativity Scene," said Nancy Clark, who lives in Leisure City.

Homeowners from Homestead to Ft. Lauderdale felt it, too.

Southwest Miami-Dade got the brunt of the storms as stalled fronts over the area combined with upper level disturbance leading to steady rainfall over a period of several days.

With just six days into December, The Redland has already seen a record of 12.12 inches of rain for the month, dating back to 1942.

Miami Executive Airport saw 8.92 inches in the last 24-hour period, the highest on record since 1998.

The Hammocks saw the most rain in that span at 10.11 inches. That was followed by The Crossings with 9.57 and Country Walk at 8.99.

Homestead, Kendall, Princeton, and Leisure City all saw more than six inches in the last 24 hours.
