MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Former Miami Heat sharpshooter Ray Allen has finally confirmed what we've all known for a while now.

He's officially retired from the NBA.

Allen, who last played in 2014, has kept some fans wondering if he would return for one last title shot but on Tuesday he put all those thoughts to rest.

The announcement from Allen came in the form of an essay he published in The Players Tribune.

Allen is undoubtedly a future Hall of Famer and will go down as one of the best pure shooters to ever play the game of basketball.

His three pointer at the end of regulation in Game 6 of the 2013 NBA Finals will be remembered by Heat fans forever.

Allen's 18-year career was played with Milwaukee, Seattle, Boston and Miami, winning a title in each of his last two stops.

He finished his career with an NBA record 2,973 three pointers, 413 more than Reggie Miller who is in second place on that list.

Following the end of his playing days, Allen and his family have settled in Miami.

He and his wife Shannon opened Grown, a healthy fast-casual restaurant in South Miami that prides itself on fresh, tasty, certified organic food.

Allen will be eligible for the Hall of Fame in 2021, along with Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan and Kevin Garnett. Can you say best HOF class ever?
