Puppy Clings To Life After Fort Lauderdale Fire

MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- A puppy is clinging to life after a fire inside a Fort Lauderdale home this week.
The 9-month old pit bull puppy named - Sweet Pea - was rescued and taken to Lauderdale Veterinary Specialists on Monday where she's being treated.
Good Samaritans rescued Sweet Pea from the fire near the 1800 block of Southwest 22nd Street. But it was too late for her parents Jasmine and Popeye who didn't make it.
What saved Sweet Pea were the paramedics who gave her oxygen, then loaded her into the ambulance.
Sweet Pea remains fighting for her life inside the intensive car unit. Staff is treating her for second degree burns to up to 40 percent of her body as well as smoke inhalation.
"Most of her injuries involve her limbs where the fire probably was. She was probably running through so her feet and legs have a significant amount of burn injury," said Dr. Lynel Tocci.
Doctors say her prognosis is serious and crews are pumping her with IV fluids, oxygen and medication to manage the pain.
Jason Hall- her owner - fought back tears while visiting her.
"You're going to be all right baby girl. You're going to be all right," he said to Sweet Pea.
According to Tocci, the next several days will be telling as to how Sweet Pea will respond to treatment.

She has a long way to go, but vets and Hall are hopeful she'll make it.
"I'm going to come back and see you," said Hall to Sweet Pea.
