Teen Prisoner Escapes Custody In Fort Lauderdale

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) -- Fort Lauderdale Police are searching for an escaped juvenile prisoner.

Officers tweeted out just before 5 p.m.,  "escapee prisoner from DJJ custody."

The escaped prisoner is said to be a 17-year-old girl.

She somehow fled in shackles while she was being transported from Broward Regional Juvenile Detention Center.

Crews are searching by air and on the streets.

The search is going on near the  1600 block of S Andrews Avenue.

Police have set up a perimeter from Davie Boulevard to SE 10th Street and Andrews Avenue to SE 3rd Street.

She was supposed to go to the hospital to treat an unknown medical issue.
