Pressure Cooker Severely Burns Toddler

FT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) - A Ft. Lauderdale toddler was rushed to the hospital after she was scalded by a pressure cooker.

Ft. Lauderdale Fire Rescue said the two-year old was near the cooker in her family's home at 1275 SW 24th Avenue she was burned by the steam and liquid from the overflow.

The girl was initially taken to Broward Health Medical Center. She was then airlifted to the Ryder Trauma Center to be treated in their specialized burn unit. The toddler has burns over 60 percent of her body, according to Ft. Lauderdale Fire Rescue.

The Ft. Lauderdale police department's Special Victims Unit is investigating the incident to decide if charges will be brought. Child protective services have also been notified.
