Powerball Jackpot 5th Largest In Game's History

TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami) - You may want to plunk down an extra couple of bucks this week for Powerball tickets.

Since no one won the whole enchilada in Wednesday night's drawing, the jackpot has rolled over to $478 million making it the fifth largest in the game's history.

In addition to the Powerball jackpot prize, players also have a chance to win smaller prizes ranging from $4 to $2 million.

Florida lottery officials note that the jackpot has rolled over 23 times since the May 11, 2016 to get to this point.

Jackpot prizes are paid in 30 annual installments or as a one-time, lump-sum payment. Jackpot prizes must be claimed within 60 days after the draw to receive the cash option of an estimated $330.6 million. Winners have 180 days from the applicable drawing to claim their prize.

The next Powerball drawing will be held Saturday, July 30, at 10:59 p.m., tickets must be purchased by 10:00 p.m.
